Exmouth Hospital - League of Friends
Volunteer Opportunities
Exmouth Hospital on its present site in Claremont Grove is the successor to the Maud Hospital started in 1884 by Mrs Hume-Long in premises in the town. Following the death of Mrs Hume-Long in 1899, the Maud Hospital, then situated in Bicton Street, was handed over to a committee to manage for the benefit of the town. When these premises proved inadequate, it was decided to build a new hospital in Claremont Grove to be known as the Exmouth Cottage Hospital, Lady Gertrude Rolle laying the foundation stone in 1902. A major extension to the hospital was carried out in 1930 followed by many developments and improvement over the years.
